Most embassies ask for proof of onward travel before they will look at your application — but paying for a ticket you may never fly is a poor trade. A dummy ticket solves that: an airline-branded flight reservation, complete with a booking reference, that you can attach to your visa file.
What a dummy ticket actually is
A dummy ticket is a flight reservation document rather than a purchased ticket. It shows the same information a consular officer looks for — the airline, the flight numbers, the dates and times, the passenger names as they appear in the passport, and a booking reference — laid out on the carrier's own official reservation template. What it does not include is a paid fare, so you are not committing thousands to an itinerary before your visa is approved.
